Every letter is read by me, on the porch, usually with the pattern in question on my lap. I answer within the week, and stuck-mid-round letters jump the queue.

Three kinds of letter I get most

A round that will not come out. Tell me the pattern, the round number, and what you counted. Nine times in ten the pattern was unclear, not you, and I will rewrite the round and tell you when it is up.

Something you finished. Send a photograph. The circle passes them round on Tuesdays and it is, honestly, the best part of keeping the porch.

A pattern you wish existed. I keep a list on the fridge. Seasonal requests go to the front of it when the season is coming round.

The porch letter

On Sunday evenings, when a pattern has gone up, I send a short letter saying what it is and how long it took. Some Sundays there is no letter. Leaving is one click.
